We had a fabulous stay at Dungbeetle River Lodge. The hosts, Etta and Derek, were welcoming and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. The building itself is beautiful, and the location on the salt river is excellent for bird watching. The attention to detail was extraordinary, and the staff was friendly and professional. We also loved the spacious family suite and the well-stocked room fridges.
Would highly recommend this hotel.

Great location right near the south entrance to the Addo Game Reserve and National Park, and overlooking the Sundays river. Our room, the Fish Eagle suite was large, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and had a wonderful balcony overlooking the river. Breakfast on the main terrace also overlooking the river was delicious with homemade breads, jams and juices plus fruit, cereals, yogurt and a great selection of cooked breakfast choices - all enjoyed while watching the local birdlife. The owners are really helpful in organising and conducting tours and in suggesting what to do in the area. We had a great stay and woud liked to have stayed longer.

The lodge offered excellent heating options, including heated mattresses and radiators in the rooms, which was perfect for the cold spring weather. The owners of the lodge were not only knowledgeable guides but also amazing cooks. Their omelets were out of this world and the kitchen staff made the crispiest bacon with a smile. The lodge was conveniently located near the wild parks, allowing easy access to the attractions.
The remote location of the lodge meant that there were limited dining options nearby, which may be inconvenient for some guests. The lodge was quite a distance from certain activities, such as the elephant bareback riding, requiring a long drive on roads with speed limits.

Derek. The host with the most, brought us on the most amazing safari trip to Addo for the day, making sure that we could see as much as possible while feeling safe and relaxed. The river paddle and exploring the huge sand dunes were also great fun. Great comfort and views. Of our three week honeymoon in sa, this was the place we found hardest to leave. A gem in the South African crown!

We are travelling party of 4 (2 adults and 2 children - 13 and 15) and spent a night @ the Dungbettle River Lodge after spending a whole day in Addo Elephant Park. The hosts, who are also expert safari guides, are wonderful and make you feel at home from the word go! The guest house itself is very well maintained and a lot of thought put into it’s efficiency (waste mgmt, water treatment, electrics) and also safety! Don’t miss breakfast full of homemade delights (bread, jam ...) Pity it was winter and we could not take full advantage of the garden and terrace!

You get what you see from the website and advertised sites and that in itself is great. Lovely view from the deck onto the river and lovely backdrop to breakfast and a nice breakfast. Thanks

The breakfast at Dungbeetle River Lodge was excellent, with a variety of self-made options. the delicious jams, fresh fruits, and vegetables were particularly enjoyable. As vegetarians and vegans, we appreciated having a wide range of choices available. the hosts, Derek and Hetta, were incredibly warm and friendly, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. the location of the lodge, with a balcony overlooking the riverside, created a truly fantastic atmosphere. We also highly recommend going on a game drive to Addo with Mike, who shared fascinating stories about the animals.
We felt completely at ease during our stay and had no reason to complain.

Dungbeetle River Lodge was worth every penny with its stunning views and spacious, tastefully decorated rooms. The location was perfect, offering a beautiful view of the lake and sand dunes, and just a short drive away from Addo Park. The staff went above and beyond to make our vacation perfect, being friendly, flexible, and even organizing a braai for us and the other guests.
The hotel breakfast menu could use a bit more variety.

Service from the time we arrived was excellent - Nothing was too much effort for the owners Derek and Etta despite their busy schedule. A complimentary drink on arrival overlooking the panoramic waterway that passes in front of the house after a long trip to the b&b was welcome. We were able to have a fantastic massage on our 1st evening and the facility and experience were top-notch. The guest-house was so good that we came back on our return journey through the Eastern Cape a few days later. The detailed and carefully thought-out African theme of the rooms adding a certain ambience to our stay. We left some personal possessions in the room by accident and the very honest proprietors kept them safe until our return - We thank them for all they did during our stay there - we highly recommend this guest-house , its staff and the owners
